 Guide to Selecting Trees

Trees provide many benefits to both cities and homeowners. Properly placed trees provide shade, beauty, wildlife habitat, and increased property value. Trees planted in the wrong place create problems. This guide provides information about native and naturalized trees to help you select the perfect tree for the space you have.

Federal Grants for Urban and Community Forestry

The Arkansas Forestry Commission is pleased to announce that Urban Forestry Assistance are again available. Grant applications will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. May 1, 2003. The USDA Forest Service provides these funds in a cooperative program with the state to manage and enhance a community's forest. Communities, non-federal government agencies, educational institutions, and 501(c)3 non-profit organizations may apply for a grant.

Federal Grant Report FY2000

In 2000, thirty communities and organizations across the state addressed urban and community forestry issues by utilizing federal funds to promote educational programs and encourage citizen participation in the protection and enhancement of their community forest.

Information about each Grant recipient and their projects is in the final report.

For specific information about your trees or about the availability of urban forestry grants, contact the Urban Forestry representative in your area.
